What is IPL Hair Removal?

IPL hair removal involves removing hair using a light source known as an IPL or ‘intense pulsed light’. IPL is not a laser, but a broad-spectrum light that is pulsed onto the skin.

Using a selected filter, the IPL light ‘scatters’ under the surface of the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. The light energy heats up the hair follicle and then destroys it. After several treatments, the hair follicle is so weak that it simply does not grow back.

Hair on the face and body has three stages of development:

Anagen – The growing phase
Catagen – The transition phase
Telogen – The resting phase

IPL hair removal is effective only on hair in the anagen stage. For maximum effectiveness we recommend treatments at intervals of between 4 to 8 weeks, to maximise the number of follicles that are susceptible to being destroyed by the heat energy.

Permanent hair reduction can be achieved on most parts of the body using IPL hair removal, including the chest, back, arms, legs, bikini line and face.

What will happen during my IPL Hair Removal treatment?

During the IPL hair removal procedure, you will be required to wear protective eyewear, provided by your specialist.

The area to be treated is shaved, and a gel is applied to the skin. Highly controlled pulses of light are selectively absorbed by hair follicles lying below the surface of the skin. The absorbed light heats the hair, which damages or destroys the regrowth potential of the follicle. All without damaging the surrounding tissue.

How long is the healing Process after IPL hair removal treatment?

Cool showers are recommended after IPL hair removal treatment, with hot baths to be avoided for 24 hours following treatment.

Cold packs, aloe vera or any other cooling preparation may be used to ease any temporary discomfort.

Sun exposure is to be avoided for four weeks before treatment and for three weeks following. A total sunblock, not sunscreen, should be applied if it is impossible to comply with these restrictions.

Am I suitable for IPL Hair Removal?

More advanced than lasers, IPL hair removal is the first photo-epilation technology proven to treat unwanted hair safely on all skin types, from very light, to very dark skin.

Endless Solutions uses one of the most advanced IPL hair removal machines on the market, the Lumenis Quantam IPL, ensuring maximum outcomes.

Are there any possible side effects of IPL hair removal?

Side effects from IPL hair removal treatment are rare. Whilst you may experience some slight reddening, or local swelling at the treatment site, this subsides within hours. Limited sun exposure before and after treatment will minimise side effects.

In most cases, you can return to work and resume normal activities immediately following treatment.

What kind of results should I expect?

IPL hair removal technology has been proven to permanently reduce the number of regrowing hairs following each treatment in most skin types. The number of treatments required depends on several factors related to your specific hair and skin type. A customized treatment program will be designed for your individual needs.
