Cosmetic Tattooing (also known as Permanent Make-up)

Permanent make-up (cosmetic tattoo) helps restore what time has taken away and saves you precious time you normally spend “putting on your face”. You can save countless hours in a single a year that were formerly spent struggling to draw eyebrows evenly or eyeliner half way straight… that’s a lot of free time! Plus, imagine the money you’ll save not buying expensive cosmetics that rub off, smear, smudge and disappear during the day.

Permanentmake-up is not necessarily intended to replace cosmetics completely. Because the colour is replaced “in” your skin not “on” your skin which gives a more natural and softer looking result.

When you’re ready to kick up your heels and go out for the night or want a different look, you can apply as much additional make-up as you wish.

What is micro-pigmentation?
Permanent make-up is that art and science of implanting colour into your skin. It is putting the right colour in the right place so you can look better naturally. Specialized instruments allow your Micro pigmentation professional to place your colour into the layer of skin known as the dermis. Because the outermost layer of skin, the epidermis is always shedding and renewing itself, you are looking at the colour through a thin veil of skin.

When a procedure is complete, the colour will appear darker than the final result. This is because the colour is in BOTH the epidermis and dermis. The colour in the top layer will flake off during the healing process lightening the overall effect. It is a cosmetic invasive procedure that requires skill, experience and cooperation with your permanent make-up professional. You are an important part of the team.

How long will it take to recover?
You’ll look like you’ve had a good cry for several hours following eyeliner. It is advised to apply cold packs (not ice) for 10min at a time during these first few hours. Also, it is important to wear sunglasses as your eyes may be temporarily sensitive to light. Eyebrow procedures have the least swelling. Lip colour often involves temporary swelling. You must let your Micro pigmentation professional know if you have a history of fever blisters so medication can be prescribed.

How long will my make-up last?
Micro pigmentation lasts a long time, but not forever. As you become accustomed to your new make-up it is not uncommon to want more. You will want to freshen up your new make-up every couple of years. The darker the colour the longer it will stay unchanged in your skin. Natural, delicate colours are often more vulnerable to the effects of the sun, swimming and breakdown by the body’s natural response.

Does it hurt?

Topical anaesthetics have been developed especially for permanent make-up procedures. The creams and gels are applied to the desired area before and during the procedure to assure you of the most comfortable experience possible. Some people describe the sensation as a “tingling” feeling. However most people still experience some discomfort, especially for lip colour procedures. How much pain? On a scale 1-10, you will usually be somewhere between a 0-3. Rarely is anything stronger than a Tylenol necessary for the discomfort and you won’t have to miss work or take time off to recover. Because this is a cosmetic invasive procedure, there are risks as well as benefits. These include infection, allergic reaction, misplaced colour, scarring, undesired result or colour. Please ask questions!

What if I have special needs?
You may have special needs for permanent makeup such as scars, vitiligo, alopecia or health problems. Your Micro pigmentation practitioners are true professionals, so don’t ever be embarrassed to ask.

Is this a smart investment?
Your investment in permanent makeup saves you time and money in the long run. Retouches are required every couple of years to keep your makeup looking fresh. Your investment in permanent makeup can completely eliminate the daily time consuming ritual of applying your makeup. And you’ll save the embarrassment of smeared, smudged, eyeliner and brows so common with mascara and brow pencils or powders. Work closely with your Micro pigmentation professional to get the results you want.
