Breast implant surgery (also known as augmentation mammoplasty and breast augmentationWhat is Breast Augmentation?Breast augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breast for a number of reasons:
By inserting an implant behind each breast, surgeons are able to increase a woman’s bustline by one or more bra cup sizes. The breast implants used by Dr Topchian are filled with a silicone gel solution. He is also using Brazilian "super-furry" breast implants for selected patients which have had TGA approval for the last 4 years. These implants have shown to have very low rates of capsular contracture combined with excellent softness and appearance. What is the procedure like? Breast augmentation is performed under a general anaesthetic in a Day Surgery facility. The surgery takes approximately 2 hours and patients can go home on the same day of the procedure. Am I suitable for Breast Implants? At your initial consultation with Dr Topchian, he will evaluate your health, medical history and suitability for the procedure. He will also explain the surgical techniques most appropriate for you. A full medical and patient history form will need to be completed before your consultation with Dr Topchian. You need to discuss your expectations frankly with him, and he will be equally frank with you, describing the risks, limitations, and expectations of this procedure. Be sure to tell him if you smoke, and if you’re taking any medications, vitamins, or other drugs. Dr Topchian will explain the type of anesthesia to be used, the type of facility where the surgery will be performed, the costs involved and the recovery period. You will also have the opportunity to try different shapes and sizes of implants, so that you can make a decision with Dr Topchian on the exact shape and size of your implants based on your height, weight, breast shape and size. He will also provide you with instructions to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and avoiding certain vitamins and medications prior to undertaking surgery. What if I have more questions? Not all patients are suitable for this procedure, and a consultation is required to assess your suitability, medical history and general health & fitness, and to allow you to discuss the procedure including risks and complications with Dr David Topchian. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second medical opinion.
